Mighty Microgreens

Bringing fresh, healthy food to those in need.

Due to Covid-19, our club, Students for Global Health and Sustainability (SGHS), wasn't able to meet in person, but we still wanted to make a difference in our community, especially given the negative effects of the pandemic on so many. We partnered with a food pantry that wanted to find a way to add fresh produce to the packaged and canned food they supplied. Given that microgreens are super nutritious and easy to grow, we decided to assemble growing kits that we gave away for free to food-insecure families. We plan to continue this endeavor during the 2021-2022 school year and are currently fundraising to support this project. Please contact us if you'd like to contribute to our efforts!

Microgreens: Who We Are

What are microgreens?

Microgreens are young vegetable greens that fall somewhere between sprouts and baby leaf vegetables. They have an intense aromatic flavor and concentrated nutrient content and come in a variety of colors and textures. Microgreens are rich in nutrients. They often contain larger amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants than fully grown vegetable plants. Microgreens may be eaten raw, juiced or blended and can be added to a variety of cold and warm dishes. Given that they’re easy to grow at home, they’re an especially cost-effective way to boost nutrient intake without having to purchase large quantities of vegetables.
